Avatar 2022: Everything You Need to Know About The Avatar Sequel

It’s safe to say that Avatar: The Way of Water is the biggest movie release of 2022. After 13 years in the making, the Avatar sequel is finally out in theatres and is already racking up quite the box office earnings, already surpassing $900 million globally. But this hardly comes as a surprise when you consider the game-changing technology used to bring this film and its characters to life.

First things first, what is the new Avatar movie about? We don’t want to give away any spoilers for those of you who have yet to see the movie. But here’s a short plot summary just to give you an idea of what you can expect from James Cameron’s latest triumph. 

About a decade after the first human invasion of Pandora, Avatar. The Way of Water tells the story of Jake Sully, Ney’tiri, and their children as they must explore other parts of Pandora. As their home is torn apart, the Sully family must go to Metkayina’s waterworld. Moviegoers can expect thrilling battle scenes between the human invaders and the Na’vi people. 

The new Avatar movie features nothing less than an A-list cast, with many of the actors from the original movie returning to reprise their characters. Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldaña both come back to play their leading roles, Jake Sully and Neytiri. Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang also make a return to the world of Pandora. And we can’t forget new cast members like Kate Winslet, Vin Diesel, and Michelle Yeoh.

All in all, this movie over delivers when it comes to the talent of its cast, especially considering the insane work and training the actors had to go through to create this movie, including underwater shooting.

In the first movie, we’re introduced to Jake Sully, an ex-Marine who lost the use of his legs in combat. Sully is recruited to take the place of his twin brother, a scientist who died, by going to Pandora and using his avatar. While in his avatar, Jake meets Neytiri, the daughter of the heads of the Omaticaya tribe of Na’vi, who he eventually falls in love with. 

The first movie follows Jake’s journey as he begins to discover the corruption behind the mission and organization he has joined and joins the Na’vi people to save their home.
